The Downhill Challenge is a soapbox cart race in the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Beauty. With a 50m drop over the 650m of the course, carts reach 45mph and with the chicanes, it is very exciting. We have pleasure in announcing that the Belchford Downhill Challenge will be taking place on Furlongs Lane, Belchford in 2012. It will be organised by two of the usual organisers, Jill Newby and Peter Thompson, with Dick Black’s place being taken by Mark Ogilvie. Mark has returned to the area after living in Cheshire for 20 years and wants to get involved in the Downhill Challenge. He came to last year’s and enjoyed it very much. On hearing that it may not go ahead in 2012, he contacted us and has now made a good start in organising next year;s event, with Jill and Peter. The event will be run to the same formula as this year’s one. Two of last year’s sponsors Pipers Crisps and Louth Tractors will be supporting us and will almost certainly be joined by some new ones who have shown interest in supporting the event. If you wish to enter and have previously entered, you will be contacted in the next couple of weeks. Entries will be opened up to new entrants one month later. The regulations and entry forms will then be available on the website. A new website for the Downhill Challenge should be on line by then and we will link to that from here, so please keep coming back here for information for the time being.
