Work on the village project goes on apace.
The business plan was submitted to the BIG Lottery and the planning application is in.  The business plan and Planning Application documents can be downloaded by following the links below
Please note that this is a large document and might take some time to download.
The planning application documents will be posted on this site shortly, as soon as all the maps and documents are scanned.
Notes of the two Village SOS public meetings are available on the Belchford Ahead Documents page, available from the Belchford Ahead page, link on the left.

Outline of the project
The plans are for  a natural burial area, which will be managed as a wild flower meadow, to provide sustainable income for the project (max 10 burials per year), native woodland and coppiced woodland, a wetland area in an existing boggy part of the site,  an area for small performances and education purposes and a recreation area for use of locals, both children and adults.
The majority of the site would be undeveloped, apart from the woodland, and all of it will be carried out with the active involvement of any villagers prepared to participate, and the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust to ensure an absolute minimum of disturbance for flora and fauna.
We are looking for the maximum involvement of Villagers, so please contribute in any  way you feel like, be it coming to meetings, making suggestions by phone, email, or on the forum on this site.
Belchford’s Success in Calor “Village of the Year Competition”

As we have been justifiably proud of our achievement of Lincolnshire Village of the Year, we had to put on our best performance for the regional judging which happened on the 7th October in Belchford.
Belchford Midsummer Ball
A picture from the ball, one of the events that impressed the judges
We met the judges in the Village Hall where they were treated to a presentation by some of the village groups.  John Smith did his usual light hearted and competent job of introducing the various groups.  Everyone then moved into the Church to hear about the Church’s various projects and the work of the Parish Council.  A session at the Cairn (Ken) followed where the judges got the chance to meet the kids from St Laurence School, who did such sterling work on the Cairn.  A dash to the Blue Bell followed and the last part of the presentation, concentrating on the commercial side of the village.  After all that, we had some excellent sandwiches (and a couple of pints for me) and it was all over.
We fought off competition from seven other villages to win the category, all of which had been nominated to represent their counties in this prestigious event. We were judged across a total of four categories: Community – a better place to live, Business – a better place to work, Sustainability – a better future, and Communications – being in contact.  We came top in the Community category.
Well done to all involved, especially Jill for the excellent work she has put into the whole project, and John for keeping us in line and on track and keeping us smiling as well.
We must thank the judges for their friendly and calming approach which went a long way to calming a few nerves.
As the regional category winner for Community, the village now has a few weeks to wait before finding out if it has triumphed at national level – as the five regional judging teams (covering North, South, East, West and Central England) come together to debate which of the regional Community category winners deserves the £500 national award.
The national category award for Community is being contested by Sedlescombe, East Sussex; Swanton Morley, Norfolk; Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire; and Crosthwaite, Cumbria along with Belchford.
If you want to find out more about the competition, nip along to the Calor Village of the Year site at www.calorvillageoftheyear.org.
We will let everyone know as soon as we hear the result.

Belchford Annual Horticultural Show
This was on Saturday 8th of August in the Village Hall, Belchford.  There were the usual classes for flowers, vegetables and fruit, children’s exhibits and produce.
A packed entry meant judging was hard but lots of silverware was handed out followed by an auction of the produce which was great fun and raised lots of money for the Village Hall.   Pictures are available here, or by following the link to Village Photos and videos, above

Graffiti Classics Concert in The Village Hall

What a brilliant evening.  Graffiti Classics were absolutely tremendous.  They performed to a packed village hall (as sellout at over 90 tickets) and kept every one laughing and clapping right to the end with their witty banter and excellent arrangements.  There will be a fuller report with pictures and video shortly but I think a quote from their website  www.graffiticlassics.com describes the evening without any exaggeration.
Any show by Graffiti Classics will leave you with a smile on your face - sixteen strings, eight dancing feet and four voices. Not gypsy, not jazz - not trad, not classical - but scintillatingly slap-stick with brilliant arrangements and mischievous humour.
Every item in the programme reveals a unique talent - displayed in amazing individual and group performances with an exciting choreographed presentation.”
A big thank you to Graffiti Classics, the Lincolnshire Rural Community Touring Arts Scheme and especially to Caroline for organising it and making it such a sellout.
If you were inspired by the evening, he full programme of events in Lincolnshire can be found by clicking the following link.  There are several top quality artists performing in the near vicinity who are well worth a short (or even a long) drive to see them.

Belchford Church Flower Festival
The annual Flower Festival at the Church of Saint’s Peter and Paul, Belchford, was a tremendous success.  Many visitors visited the Church, which was beautifully decorated.  Excellent food was served at the Village hall, where some stalls were there to further entertain visitors.  Photos can be viewed here or by following the link to Village Photos and Videos
The theme of this year’s displays was the Church year, such as Christmas, Easter and other holy days.  The usual high quality displays by villagers were on show.
