Belchford Table Tennis Club

Belchford Sports & Social Club

Belchford Table Tennis Club now meets at Tetford Village Hall

Belchford Table Tennis Club started life originally as the ‘Belchford Sports and Social Club’. Various events have taken place in the last two years including the playing of boules in the summer and a valiant attempt at learning ballroom dancing by 28 residents over several months from January 2009. Sadly there was a predominance of many left feet for the latter event and the only sport currently played is table tennis. The ‘Belchford Table Tennis Club’ was officially formed on 01 October 2009. ‘Belchford Ahead’ purchased two tables, bats and balls and sponsored the club with paying for village hall hire until the club started to run its own affairs. The club also started a very painful year in the ‘Boston & District Table Tennis League’ and eventually finished bottom of the league by some margin! Beaten maybe, but certainly not bowed, we eventually learned that coaching of members at all levels was paramount to succeeding in the game. We applied ourselves to seeking funding to address our weaknesses. Fortunately ‘East Lindsey District Council’ and ‘Sport England’ giving us £1600. This has allowed us to purchase a league standard table tennis table, a state of the art table tennis robot to increase fitness and technique levels and importantly funds to allow us to pay an ‘ETTA’ accredited coach, and also a national table tennis champion, to coach all of our members. Everyone of any age and of whatever standard is welcome at any time and the club will be holding free taster events on the Mondays of 18 October and 01 November this year again starting at 1930. So please come along and enjoy the friendly atmosphere and someone may even make you a relaxing cup of tea or coffee after your exertions.
