REPORT OF 2008 EVENT

The 2007 Downhill Challenge
Another Downhill Challenge has come and gone down the hill very rapidly.  Although not without it’s hiccups, this year’s event was a great success.  Record crowds, record numbers of competitors, records broken in spite of a reduction in weight.  With 140 runs compared to the 90 of last year, a busy time was had by all.
Teams arrived from all around the county and from as far afield as Northampton, Sheffield and Scotland.  The Sheffield captain came hotfoot from Aberdeen where he had been doing his regular job of teaching abseiling to paint crews on oil rigs!
The carts varied in sophistication from the beautifully engineered ones of TES, MG and Haldir’s Arrow to the ingenious use of free components by the likes of Team Guru, Three Wheelers and Sound for a Pound.
Team TES took the fastest team and individual again with local team Flying Fox putting in a very commendable second place.  National class winners were regulars Wacky Racers in their new cart.  The Novelty was fiercely contested with Sheila’s Wheels winning the prize.  Full results will be published shortly.
The usual stalls proved very popular with the food, especially the burgers which were supplied by local company Meridian meats, going down particularly well thanks to the tireless work of the catering volunteers.  The large bouncy castle with downhill slide of it’s own went down well (actually it stayed inflated all day).
Our sponsors, Watson Fuels, Thurlby Motors, Robert Bell & Co, and Boston Audi helped make it all possible.
The huge turnout of spectators brought with them problems for parking in spite of large car parking areas provided by M.G.Brown and Mr Smith although the most spectators appear to have parked as considerately as possible.
